These water tanks were pioneered by Sintex (company based in Ahmedabad, now taken over by Welspun) and this concept picked up very fast into a affordable plastic water tanks system. The general capacity of these tanks range from 500L, 1000L, 2000L, 5000L and 10,000L depending on the requirement and the cost varies around 8-9 Rs/Litre.
But do you know which material these tanks are made of? And these simple looking tanks are singe layer or Multi-layer? The answer to latter question – we will explore in our next blog, the material these tanks are made of is LLDPE (Liner Low Density Polyethylene). To know more about LLDPE – Click Here.
LLDPE – 0.936 Density and 4.5MI is the most common specs that imparts following properties:
Stiffness-Toughness balance, Creep, Tensile and Elongation properties. In addition, people use UV Masterbatch to offer UV resistance against Sun and ensure the operational life of these tanks extends beyond 15 years. In fact, nowadays many of the tank manufacturers offer 10 Years replacement warranty which itself is a big claim for this product.
Which Tanks to choose and why? What is the exact structure of these tanks? Why only LLDPE and not HDPE ? – We will take up all these questions in our coming blog.
Till then stay safe & take care!
